Self-Esteem

                                                                                                               Self Esteem

Nine Ways to Feel Great About Yourself

Who said you have poor self-esteem?
Most likely it is YOU who created a negative self perception.. Feeling competent and accepted is directly related to how you view yourself. You may think others do better than you or you are lacking in areas of work, relationships and quality of life. This is how you see yourself. Of course, we all can improve. However, making frequent negative self-statements is a habit that does not define you, but will cause continued negative feeling about yourself. This internal critic is the culprit of poor self esteem.

Immediate ways to boost yourself-esteem:
  1. List any and all your abilities. View this list of strengths daily and allow yourself to accept and have positive thoughts related to your abilities.
  2. Set realistic daily goals such as organizing, returning calls and household chores. As you reach each goal, make a quick positive self statement such as "glad that is done’ or “good job. I did it”. Positive self talk leads to positive feelings.
  3. Regularly pursue enjoyable leisure interest such as walking, mind games, tending to plants or whatever you enjoy. Become mindful of your engagement and enjoyment of these experiences.
  4. Express gratitude and appreciation to others. Small expressions of thanks to others helps you and those you interact with feel positive about life.
  5. Relax! Just take a deep breath and focus on the quality and sensations of your breathing. Here and now mindfulness will create feeling of well-being.
  6. Positive attitude. Think about and appreciate everything that went right today. Appreciate small daily positive experiences. See the glass as half full rather than half empty.
  7. Do it! Don’t procrastinate. Finish what you need to do and move on. Putting off things leads to frustrations and conflicts.
  8. Avoid using thoughts such as I should, must or have to. These absolutes are veiled self-put downs. Plan self improvement with concrete easy to achieve steps such as eating one less snack today or making a new friend this month.
  9. Accept who you are. By comfortable self acceptance you stand a much better chance of feeling positive about the whole you and activating those areas you would like to change.
