Panic Attacks

Intense physical symptoms such as a rapid heartbeat, labored breathing, sweating and sense of loss of control are the key features of a panic attack. Most often panic attacks occur out of the blue and are not related to any particular situation. Unfortunately, the individual having a panic attack can feel intensely out of control and obsessed with dying. Panic attacks can last up to about 30 minutes.A panic attack is a real and quite distressing experience. Unfortunately, the individual having such an attack becomes quite consumed by worries, fears and the thought they may not regain control. Panic attacks often lead to additional anxiety and fears. These emotions can trigger future attacks.
Research has not revealed what causes panic attacks. Nevertheless, this form of anxiety is quite common and treatable with short term behavior therapy.
If you experience panic attacks it is recommended you be evaluated by a physician. If there are no medical causes, panic disorders can be resolved with the appropriate psychological treatment.
